Margie Pemu is a PhD student from Uark, bringing a fresh perspective and contemporary research to the fields of counseling and psychotherapy.
As a therapist, I aim to create a safe, supportive environment for clients, even virtual, where they feel empowered to discuss difficulties, acknowledge and accept their feelings, and be open- minded about solutions. Along with advocating for your mental health, I'll give you tools to support positive changes, like building confidence and finding a sense of belonging. In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arkansas, I'm a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I'm working on my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Arkansas. With my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Alabama, I've been practicing since 2019.
While an LPC can help with many things, my expertise is in anxiety, depression, adjustment concerns, life transitions, multicultural concerns, relational distress, self-esteem, gender and sexuality, family dynamics, grief, and trauma. Additionally, I have training in Play Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, Brainspotting, Adventure Therapy, and working with military families.
Through experiential activities like expressive arts, Sandtray, tabletop games (Dungeons & Dragons, Ubuntu cards, etc.), and mindfulness techniques, I encourage people to connect with their emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations. These help people discover their strengths and develop better coping skills. Therefore, empowering them to achieve their goals while navigating challenges.
As a Black Queer woman, I'm proud to embrace my identity. Due to my own experiences, I bring a deep understanding and empathy for the diverse struggles and triumphs people of color and LGBTQ+ communities face. Playing or watching rugby sporting events, traveling, playing or attending game nights with my partner, and playing dungeons and dragons are some of my favorite things to do outside the therapeutic space.
